Tell me something about yourself.
I’m a science student and just an everyday girl who loves reading, food, and clothes.

Do you have a favorite book and what are you currently reading?
I read mostly bad boy stories from Wattpad. So no favourites really.
Currently reading ‘I sold myself to the devil for Vinyls, Pitiful I know’. It’s not as cliché as it sounds.

Are there any words or phrases that you use the most?
‘Oh my God!’, ‘Like seriously?’ I gasp at almost everything.

What’s the best part about your life in Kohima?
The weather!

Where are you from?
We are from Dimapur, Nagaland.

What do you do?
Pur: Freelance interior decorator & event planner
Asano: I am a graphic designer & an entrepreneur.

What’s your favorite word?
P: Effervescent- I don’t know why!
A: Mush.

How would you describe your style?
P: Comfort & functional. Don’t know if theres a word for that. I wear what I feel like everyday.
A: A mix of classic and trendy I guess. I like some trendy styles but need them in black or white. That, and a bit of gold accessories. I say “a bit”, people say “a lot”.

Do you have any fashion icons?
P: No.
A: None, really. Maybe I lean towards what K-pop artistes wear.

What’s the best part about your life in Dimapur?
P: Family & friends. I cannot function without them.
A: The best part would be the security. I’m around family, friends, and working in the place I grew up and that familiarity is reassuring.

What song/band are you currently listening to?
P: I’m listening to a lot of K-pop lately like Big Bang, 2ne1. Bits of Tori kelly and Leroy Sanchez.
A: What Do You Mean? by Justin Bieber. Oriental Dream by Shalo Kent. (It’s not released yet.)

What was your last weekend like?
P: I don’t remember much. My head hurts thinking about it.
A: Work filled. Decorated a Ninja themed party and worked on a magazine design till 3 am.

What places do you recommend to hang at in Dimapur?
P: Upstairs for drinks & Tom Yum Goong for food- the chicken wings & liver chilly is amazing.
A: There’s not much to do but after dark – Upstairs and Hooligans.

“These pics are of my dad and his friends around 1977-78. They are all Zeliangrong Naga boys in their late teens studying in Shillong.

My dad was a free spirit, an all rounder – local singer, martial artist, he had plenty of friends and roamed around everywhere. I was surprised to hear he turned up good grades haha!

Those were interesting days, he used to say. They listened to Grand Funk Railroad, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Linda Ronstadt etc.
Bell bottoms were all the rage with block heel shoes. They would be 3-4 inches tall!”

Tell me something about yourself.
I am pretty sure I am 5 feet tall. I was born and raised in Shillong and moved to Delhi for further studies. That’s when I realised how tiny I was. I like big curly hair, hiking, and Girls.

How would you describe your style?
I think I’m very laid back in my dressing, I got that from Shillong. People in Aizawl dress up a lot and I’m not really influenced by it.

What are you currently listening to?
Machu Picchu by The Strokes. Leave the Lights On by Meiko – Culture Code remix. Magic by Coldplay.

Aizawl, Mizoram. February 2013.

Van & Sangboihi

mizoram people fashion style delhi

What kind of fashion do you like and what shows did you watch at fashion week?
Van: I like a bit grungy type of outfits. I went to see just one show so I don’t know what I like this fashion week. Atsu was quite alright I guess but I didn’t see the show.
Sang: I love all kinds of style — boho, chic, feminine, goth, but I usually like dressing up in a simple, understated way. I love embroidery work. I’ve been a fan of Gauri and Nainika for a long time and I also love the concept of Pero by Aneeth Arora.

Do you have any fashion icons?
Van: The Kills. Pete Doherty.
Sang: No, not exactly. I used to love the model Kate Moss for her style but maybe not anymore.

What kind of music do you like and what are you currently listening to?
Van: Lots of Sia and MIA. I love MIA. She is so innovative with both fashion and music.
Sang: I love Mark Knopfler a lot and my all time favourite band is Dire Straits. Growing up with three elder brothers made me love all the 80s & 90s rock bands. Currently I’m listening to Ane Brun’s version of Halo on repeat.

Fashion week, Delhi. October 2014.
